Best Buy Awards $12,000 to MN Campus Alliance

Best Buy LogoThe Minnesota Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Ally Campus Alliance has received $12,000 in TagTeam grants from Best Buy Co., Inc

The Best Buy TagTeam Award Program recognizes the volunteer and fundraising efforts of its employees by matching their time and efforts for a nonprofit organization with a financial contribution. Minnesota State Colleges & Universities Representative Scott Anderson (Operations Senior at Best Buy Eagan, Store 1055), and Development Coordinator Daniel Zillman (Chair of Best Buy PRIDE Corporate) both volunteer for the Minnesota GLBTA Campus Alliance Board.

Ryan Kroening Wins Leadership Award

Ryan KroeningMembership Coordinator Ryan Kroening is one of this year’s recipients of the President’s Student Leadership & Service Award from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

The Student Leadership & Service Award recognizes the accomplishments and contributions made by outstanding student leaders at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. On behalf of the university’s President, it is presented annually to approximately one-half of one percent of the student body for their exceptional leadership and service to the University of Minnesota and the surrounding Community. The awards are facilitated in coordination with the Office of the President, Office for Student Affairs, University of Minnesota Alumni Association and Student Unions & Activities.

Ryan Kroening is currently pursing a Bachelor of Individualized Studies in Anthropology, Design and Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts Honors Program, and is actively involved in outreach, event planning, and volunteerism for the Minnesota GLBTA Campus Alliance. Additionally, Ryan volunteers with the Aliveness Project, a community center located in South Minneapolis that provides services and programs to the HIV/AIDS community. Other groups include the Honors CLA Student Board, University Band, and PFund.

Anne Phibbs wins Philantrofund Award

Photo of Anne PhibbsMN Campus Alliance co-founder Anne Phibbs is this year’s recipient of the Power of One Award from Philantrofund Foundation, an area organization that supports GLBT communities throughout the upper Midwest.

The Power of One Award is designed to recognize individuals who work to improve the quality of life for the GLBT community through efforts such as volunteering, activism and/or leadership. Past award recipients have generally had a strong knowledge of the GLBT community and a commitment to serving the community as effective leaders and/or dedicated volunteers.

For the honor of winning this award, Anne Phibbs receives $2,000.00 from Philanthrofund toward a non-profit organization of her choice. She plans to donate her $2,000.00 equally to both the MN Campus Alliance and the Transgender Commission at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Anne Phibbs was instrumental in founding the Minnesota GLBTA Campus Alliance, and is currently director of systemwide programs for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Programs Office at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

MN Campus Alliance wins Twin Cities Community Pride Award

Image of Hennepin County Government CenterThe Minnesota Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Ally Campus Alliance received the 2008 Community Pride Award from Twin Cities Pride, the nonprofit organizer of Minnesota’s annual Twin Cities Pride Celebration.
